Robert F. Porges, M.D., a charter member of the Society of Gynecologic Surgeons, is
Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the New York University School of Medicine.
He is an experienced gynecologic reconstructive surgeon and urogynecologist and has received the
Distinguished Surgeons Award from the Society for Gynecologic Surgeons.
Dr. Porges attended Dartmouth College and received his medical degree from the State University of New York,
in Brooklyn. His post-graduate training was in both private and municipal hospitals in New York City. After
two years in the United States Air Force, stationed at the Wilford Hall Hospital in San Antonio, he returned
to New York and joined the faculty at the New York University School of Medicine. Currently he heads the
Division of Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery and is the interim chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and
Gynecology.
Dr. Porges has written on a variety of obstetrical and gynecologic topics in peer reviewed journals, with an
emphasis on pelvic anatomy, surgical descriptions of vaginal hysterectomy and outcome studies on pelvic organ
prolapse.
