Robert F. Porges, M.D., a charter member of the Society of Gynecologic Surgeons, is Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the New York University School of Medicine.
He is an experienced gynecologic reconstructive surgeon and urogynecologist and has received the Distinguished Surgeons Award from the Society for Gynecologic Surgeons.
He received the Lifetime Achievement Award for Advancing Knowledge in Vaginal
Surgery, by the Society of Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery. He served as Chairman
of the Department of OBGYN at NYU for eight years and now is the Director
of the Division of Pelvic Reconstruction Surgery.
Dr. Porges attended Dartmouth College and received his medical doctorate from the State University of New York, in Brooklyn. His post-graduate training was in both private and municipal hospitals in New York City. After two years in the USAF, stationed at the Wilford Hall Hospital in San Antonio, he returned to New York and joined the faculty at the New York University School of Medicine, where he has taught and practiced ever since.
Dr. Porges has written on a variety of obstetrical and gynecologic topics in peer reviewed journals, with an emphasis on pelvic anatomy, surgical descriptions of vaginal hysterectomy and outcome studies on pelvic organ prolapse.
